Well, what are you making?
I learned quickly that I wouldn’t stick with a crochet project if it was taking too long to finish. Maybe there’s something wrong with me or I’m not disciplined enough. But either way, as a business-owner, I know that my time is limited. If I’m going to make any money, I need to respect my time.
Here are some things I’ve made and sold that I can whip up quickly:
- Key chains. You name it, and it can be attached to a key ring.
- Earrings. Oh how FUN are these. I absolutely love making little charms and using my little pliers to attach them to jump rings and ear wires. I recommend using good quality, hypoallergenic metal for the ear wires, such as sterling silver or 14k gold-filled.
- Blanket yarn items. Bigger yarn = fewer stitches. Blanket yarn can be more expensive, unless you get it from a secondhand craft store! I have also made a few things from thick t-shirt yarn; see Winding Road’s guide for making this yarn yourself.
- Hacky sacks. Yes, they are coming back! My pattern for these requires some sewing.
If there’s a pattern you want to try, but you think it might take you forever, you can use my Fair Pricing Calculator to type in the number of stitches in the pattern. It will spit out a time for you, then you can decide whether it’s worth your time. Yeah, it’s good.
